About THE AUTISM SOCIETY

About the Autism Society

The Autism Society of America, with members across the country, has been improving the lives of all affected by autism for over 50 years and envisions a world where individuals and families living with autism are able to maximize their quality of life, are treated with the highest level of dignity, and live in a society in which their talents and skills are appreciated and valued. The nation’s leading grassroots autism organization, the Autism Society provides advocacy, education, information and referral, support, and community at national, state and local levels through our strong nationwide network of Affiliates.

For over 50 years, the Autism Society has championed countless initiatives that enable all with an autism diagnosis to progress to achieving the highest quality of life possible throughout the individual’s life, including numerous pieces of legislation that promote better employment, education, and community living outcomes; and awareness activities, such as National Autism Awareness Month, held each April.

Founded in 1965, the Autism Society is:

  • The largest and oldest grassroots organization advocating on behalf of the 3.5 million America children and adults with autism.
  • The national leader in serving people with autism, their families and professionals.
  • Home to the largest online referral database of autism services, Autism Source™.
  • The organizers of the largest annual national conference on autism, designed for parents, teachers, health care providers, and other professionals
  • The leader of the largest network of over 90 affiliates, providing education and support to families, educators, and health professionals across the country

The Autism Society’s vision for the future is that every individual with ASD receives early identification of the condition, appropriate treatments and support and a quality of life that helps each person achieve their potential.
